FREE 'Be a Ref' Basketball Referee Clinic for Ages 18-25 Set for April 10

Basketball Manitoba is pleased to launch a new initiative aimed to attract more young people into becoming a new basketball referee or coach. The 'Be a Ref' promotion is targeting young adults in the 18-25 age range to continue with the sport this April in a different capacity. With most people in this age range seeing their basketball involvement coming to end, we want to open another chapter with your love for the game of basketball! Basketball Manitoba, MABO, WMBA and MHSAA are offering a free referee clinic to these people this April to make basketball a 'sport for life'.

Thanks for making the decision to get involved as a basketball referee and making basketball a sport for life! We want to get you off and running with the right information and skills and make this a life long experience!

Fall Junior Basketball Referee Clinic Dates Set

Basketball Manitoba in partnership with MABO has set its Fall 2014 junior referee clinic dates for this September, October and November. The dates include September 27, October 4, 5, 26 and November 8, 2014. All new and existing junior referees will be required to attend one of the all-day clinics this fall. The 4 clinics will be held in the Winnipeg area. The Junior Officials Development Program (JODP) is designed to improve the overall level of officiating in the Junior High / Middle School Minor basketball leagues. National Officials Certification Program

The Manitoba Association of Basketball Officials has recently adopted our national body’s certification program – the CABO National Officials Certification Program. As a result of the new national certification program, there are some obvious areas of overlap between the new national program and what each individual province’s association was doing for certification and clinic curriculum. Therefore, the MABO Level Certification Program will be replaced by the CABO National Officials Certification Program, effective immediately.

The Manitoba Association of Basketball Officials (MABO) is an arm of Basketball Manitoba and a branch of the Canadian Basketball Officials Commission (CBOC). They make province-wide rulings and selections for provincial tournaments and are responsible for the growth, organization, and development of Manitoba basketball officials and, in partnership with Basketball Manitoba, offer a number of programs and services beneficial to basketball officiating in the province.
