Welcome to the 2026–27 basketball season! I hope everyone enjoyed a great summer and is looking forward to getting back on the court.
With adult leagues and Peg City Showcases getting underway, please ensure you are physically prepared for the demands of the season. Let’s arrive in shape and ready to officiate from the opening tip!
Certification clinics are filling up, and all officials must attend a MABO certification clinic to officiate this season. Please visit the 2026–27 MABO Membership and Clinic Registration page for details and to register.
I also encourage you to visit the CBOC website for information on NOCP training and other learning opportunities. Completing the appropriate NOCP levels is essential for officials looking to advance at the provincial level and beyond.
Please join me in welcoming Jody Jury to the MABO Board. Jody will coordinate our evaluations and can be reached at farmergirl121@gmail.com. Evaluations are an important part of your development, so please connect with Jody early in the season to arrange yours.
At our June AGM, the membership voted to move forward with a committee review of MABO’s future structure and operations. MABO also held two information sessions led by CBOC, which is encouraging provinces to adopt a commission model. We will explore this model in the coming months.
As MABO approaches its 50th anniversary, our board structure and the way we conduct business have remained largely unchanged over the years. As the game of basketball continues to evolve, MABO must evolve with it.
The committee has already been working for more than a year, and we are now seeking two or three additional members to help with the next phase. Beginning in late September, the committee will meet once or twice a month via Zoom, with some potential project work between meetings.
