MABO and Basketball Manitoba are saddened to share the news of the passing of long-time basketball referee William (Bill) Harper on August 29, 2025, at the age of 77.

Bill dedicated decades of service to basketball officiating in Manitoba, leaving a lasting mark on the game and on countless officials who worked alongside him. His commitment, knowledge, and steady presence helped shape the culture of officiating in our province.

To honour his memory, MABO will be making a donation to the MABO Mentoring Program, a program designed to support and guide new officials. Bill was deeply involved with this initiative over the years, and it stands as a fitting way to recognize his dedication to developing the next generation of referees.

On behalf of Manitoba’s basketball community, we extend our deepest condolences to Bill’s family and friends. His impact on the game will be remembered and carried forward by the many officials and athletes whose lives he touched.

As per Bill’s wishes, there will be no formal service. His family asks that friends and colleagues honour his memory by sharing photos, stories, and memories on his tribute page: ethicaldeathcare.com/obits/harper-william-bill.
