    Updates to Basketball Undergarments & Equipment Announced in Manitoba

    Basketball Manitoba has announced changes to what equipment will be permitted to be worn by athletes on the court effective immediately (December 2017).  In the 2017 FIBA Rulebook, a number of changes were made tied to the personal equipment that a player is permitted and not permitted to wear in a basketball game.  Based on early feedback from a variety of levels and leagues, there has been some relaxing of the changes as detailed in the FIBA Rulebook.  The following chart is a breakdown of the different uniform and equipment modifications tied to each level of play in Manitoba and has been approved by Basketball Manitoba, the Manitoba Association of Basketball Officials and the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association to take effect immediately.

    Levels of basketball that are included in this summary are...

    • COMMUNITY - Wpg Minor Basketball Community Club (WMBA), Wpg Athletic Assoc for Youth (WAAY), Attack Youth League, Winkler Minor Basketball
    • CLUB - Manitoba Basketball League (MBL), Peg City Youth Basketball (PCYBL), Philippine Basketball Association (PBA 17 and under), Attack Basketball League (ABL), All Sanctioned Club Tournaments
    • JUNIOR HIGH / MIDDLE SCHOOL - Manitoba Junior High and Middle School Leagues, Tournaments and Games including the Junior High Basketball Championships
    • HIGH SCHOOL - Manitoba High School Leagues, Tournaments and Games governed by the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association (MHSAA)
    • UNIVERSITY / COLLEGE - Manitoba University and College basketball governed by USPORTS and the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC)
    • ADULT - Fort Garry Men's Basketball League, Peg City Basketball League, Philippine Basketball Association (18+), Winnipeg Women's Basketball League, Interathletic Sports Leagues, Brandon Men's Basketball League, Brandon Women's Basketball League
